Apart from that they are well-documented for longevity, strength and soundproofing, which makes them just a right choice. Whereas they come with so many benefits, they need care and maintenance to remain in their best condition. Though painted aluminum doors are easy to care, unpainted frames may need tough cleaning sessions as they are likely to take on scratches, pits and hazy patina more easily. Here are some easy tidbits in steps you can do at home to overcome such unwanted element.
Step 1: Clean the door frames with clean, dry and soft cloth to remove dust. Make a solution of mild soap and warm water, and use it to wash the surface and excessive dirt. Rinse it off with clean water, leaving no races of soap and then wipe the surface with clean soft cloth.
Step 2: For stubborn grease and spot you can use a readymade solvents that specially come for aluminium doors. However, test it in a small portion before using it for entire frame. If you want to avoid such solvents, you can make one of your own. Combine lemon juice and baking soda into 1:1 ratio to make a thick paste. Apply a coat of this paste all over the aluminium door and let it sit for several minutes. Remove the paste using a damp cloth or sponge and then dry the surface with soft cloth.
Step 3: Make a solution of baking soda and vinegar in 1:2 ratio and store it in a spray bottle. Use it for cleaning the tracks. Spray the solution on the track and then lose the dirt with a brush. Remove the dirt using a sponge. Rinse the surface with clean water and dry it completely using a cloth.
Step 4: For extremely stubborn stains, use a fine steel wool dipped in a paint thinner or aluminium jelly and scrub the surface gently. Both of them can be found in any home improvement hardware shop.
Step 5: Once the entire door is cleaned check if there is any leftover grit. If there is any, remover it with a damp soft bristle pad. Rub it on the surface gently then rinse and dry the frame to clean leftover chemical agent. Make sure you have cleaned and dried the surface completely to avoid the stains of cleaning agents and water.
If you follow these steps once in a month or two, probably you will not have to put much effort. Regular dry dusting and wiping with damp cloth will do half of your job. Simply putting a little effort can make your aluminium doors sparkling for years.
